Firmdale, the British company behind the Crosby Street Hotel in Soho, owns several well-known hotels in London (Covent Garden and Knightsbrige, to name a few) and has earned a stellar reputation on both sides of the Atlantic.

The company's distinct style comes straight from owners Tim and Kit Kemp, a dynamic husband-and-wife duo. Luxurious interiors meet kitsch, a combination of English classicism and contemporary design now on display on Crosby Street.

Each of the 86 rooms has its own design, but they all share unusual color combinations, antique furnishings, art, and large windows that fill the rooms with light. The hotel has an excellent restaurant. Coffee and lunch are served on the summer terrace in the courtyard, which opens onto Lafayette Street. You can also enjoy afternoon tea and pastries at the bar.

The hotel also features a state-of-the-art, 99-seat cinema that can be rented out for private screening parties, as well as a well-equipped, 24-hour gym.

Key info: The beau monde, celebrities, filmmakers and fashionistas flock to the bar at night.

Rooms start at $675 per night.
