This cozy gastropub on the border of Williamsburg and Greenpoint opened in 2008 and hasn't had a quiet moment since then. It's crowded, loud, lively, and one of best places to have brunch in Brooklyn.

The decor is predictably "Brooklyn": oak tables, a wood ceiling, handmade chandeliers, a bar, large windows, and outdoor seating during the summer. "Simple and relaxed" is the name of the game. Locals roll up on bicycles and sit in large groups outside. Breakfast, brunch, dinner – it's packed almost around the clock. The portions are decent and the ingredients fresh. Five Leaves' tasty fare and reasonable prices draw a diverse crowd, from popular artists and photographers to local tattoo artists.

We recommend: pancakes with ricotta; organic scrambled eggs with spicy tomato sauce; the signature Five Leaves Burger.

Cuisine: new American.

Atmosphere: bohemian/lively.

The Crowd: creative types, hipsters, journalists, "It" girls.

FYI: A long line forms outside in the evening. They don't accept reservations, so you have to stand in line, order a glass of wine, and hang out with locals on the street. Or, you can order a cup of coffee at the special coffee window.
