It sounds strange to hear the Kremlin described as a "museum-preserve,"  but that's exactly what it is. The complex includes the Assumption, Archangel's, and Annunciation cathedrals; the Ivan the Great Bell Tower; Patriarch's Palace; and the Church of the Deposition of the Robe. The museum was founded in 1806 by Alexander I and has long been celebrated for its historical and architectural value (or, more accurately, its invaluableness). The Kremlin is one of two UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Moscow (the other is the Church of the Ascension at Kolomenskoye) and, of course, it deserves to be viewed as more than just a political symbol.

FYI: Subscriptions are available for cultural and historical event cycles. Prices begin at 400 rubles ($10) and depend on the subject matter and number of lecture hours.
