This boutique hotel occupies an old 19th-century building on the corner of Broome and Crosby streets in lively Soho. Once filled with art studios, the building later captured the attention of four French friends, who turned it into a contemporary hotel. The interior is retro-styled and unsually quiet for Manhattan, while the courtyard contains a cozy, green patio with little tables and plush couches. A mix of retro and contemporary art define the interior aesthetic.

There are 14 rooms, including several suites and a penthouse. Standard rooms are suitable for solo travelers. Couples are better off reserving a deluxe suite. The Penthouse suite is the largest, taking up the entire fifth floor. It has its own balcony and a terrace with a garden and deck chairs. The owners have found an outlet for their love of art. Works from their private collection – including a colorful picture by the well-known American artist Keith Haring – cover the walls of the patio and lobby. A complimentary continental breakfast is served in a small cafe. In summer, tables appear on the patio.

FYI: The toiletries are specially manufactured for the hotel by celebrated French perfumers. There's free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel.

Rooms start at $370 per night.
